Fiborn Quarry history, Michigan Karst Conservancy
1920: Quarry output, in tandem with steel output, falls and remains low during post-war recession. Only 17 workers and a total population of 36 reported in 1920 census. 1921-23: Quarry closed frequently for long periods. In February 1923, Valentine Hemm, superintendent of Fiborn and Ozark quarries, leaves St. Ignace to reopen both.
